Stand-Alone Israel Aid Bill Fails in House

The aid package would have provided $17.6 billion to Israel.

Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana brought stand-alone legislation to the House floor on Tuesday which was voted down. The measure was considered under suspension of rules that limited debate and barred amendments but would require a two-thirds majority to pass. The bill was a couple of dozen votes short.

Speaker Johnson stated prior to the vote that, should it fail to pass, “There’s a very good chance we’ll bring it back again next week.”

House minority leaders opposed to this stand-alone legislation said they were “prepared to support any serious, bipartisan effort in connection with the special relationship between the United States and Israel, our closest ally in the Middle East.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Speaker Johnson to receive God’s guidance as he oversees the House of Representatives.
  • For members of Congress as they deliberate and craft legislation for appropriations.
  • For the peace of Jerusalem and for discernment for U.S. and Israeli officials.
